What do you do at The Philly Apartment Company?
My job title is Leasing Consultant which entails matching clients to properties that meet their needs. I’m an apartment matchmaker!
How did you get into real estate?
Being a former teacher I enjoy professions like real estate that allow me to interact with people while providing insight that allows them to meet their needs and achieve their goals. Also, I’ve always been really interested in interior design and architecture so real estate seemed like a great fit.
Do you have an interesting story from your first apartment?
It wasn’t my first apartment but maybe my fourth. I relocated from Michigan to Montana for a job after college. I rented a room out of a house site unseen and would be living with three guys and three dogs. So I was bit nervous as it was a new state, new house and new roommates all that I wouldn’t see or meet until I arrived. I called the landlord to inquire about picking up a key to move in and he said “just head on in, the house is unlocked, no need for a key here” What!! No key!?!? That’s Montana for you, it’s really safe. The house itself was dated and basic, however the mountain views and the ping pong table made it a great place. Despite sharing a bathroom with three guys I’m still friends with all of them.
What is your favorite neighborhood in Philadelphia and why?
I have two favorites. Old city for it’s rich history and the art galleries. Northern Liberties for it’s uniqueness and character. I really enjoy taking a stroll through those neighborhoods, I notice something new every time.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I take pride in the fact that I can make a stressful situation, such as moving house, less of a headache for my clients. I enjoy being able to help people find the right place for them and make the process a less overwhelming experience.
What is your favorite quote?
“A bad attitude is like a flat tire. If you don’t change it you’ll never go anywhere.”
